Lyndon Remias

City Auditor, City of Virginia Beach, VA

Lyndon Remias is the City Auditor for the City of Virginia Beach. Remias was appointed by the Virginia Beach City Council in May 2008 to become the City's first appointed City Auditor. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Government Auditing Professional (CGAP), and has a Certification in Rick Management Assurance (CRMA). Remias has over 28 years of public, private, and governmental auditing experience. Remias has worked previously with Fortune 500 Company Amerigroup Corporation, Eastern Virginia Medical School, NEXCOM, Auditor of Public Accounts, and KPMG. Remias was also elected to the Virginia Beach School Board in May 2006 where he served for two years prior to resigning to accept the City Auditor position. Remias is a former seminar instructor for the IIA where he taught several courses including CIA Exam Review Courses, Tools and Techniques for the Beginning Auditor, and Operational Auditing for the Senior Auditor. The IIA has recognized Remias as a Distinguished Instructor for his technical expertise and exceptional delivery skills. Remias also has extensive experience presenting at local IIA and VLGAA conferences. Remias has also been a local leader in the internal auditing profession. Remias has been a former IIA Regional Director, District Director, and IIA Tidewater Chapter President. Remias is also a former President of the Virginia Local Government Auditors Association (VLGAA). He currently serves as an Association of Local Government Auditors (ALGA) peer review team leader. Remias is a graduate of Old Dominion University located in Norfolk, VA where he received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a major in Accounting. In 2013, the ODU Accounting Department honored Remias by awarding him a Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to the school and the accounting profession.
